"I Set Out To Build The Best Titanium Pen In The World — Then Realized The Only Way To Do It Was To Invent An Entirely New Mechanism ...Machine A Spring Out Of Solid Titanium ...And Attempt The One Thing Most Makers Won't Even Try."

(This pen was such a brute to manufacture that I stopped making them for a long time. I finally decided to try again ...and it was absolutely worth it. Here's the full story...)

Dear Fellow Pen Lover (And Fellow Lover Of Things Done Properly),

It's Magnus here (yes, I'm still hands-on in the shop running CNC machines)

Due to popular demand... I've finally brought it back: my famous ClickShift™ titanium pen — now in its fourth generation.

And before I tell you a single thing about it, how about you hear from some customers first...

What Customers Are Saying:

Dugold is a pilot (we get quite a few pilots using our pens ...but it makes sense, because a pen is a critical instrument for pilots).

"I just received my Click Pen and I must say I'm beyond impressed. There are no words to describe it. From the super-fast shipping to the beautiful presentation box... and of course the pen itself. As a repeat customer — you can't put a price on quality and craftsmanship." — Chris M., California, USA

"Hi, just wanted to let you know my two Titanium pens have arrived. Worth waiting for... You can probably hear me scream of delight all the way from Sweden! Marvelous pen! I expected it to be a bit larger but the size is just perfect! Just wow! Thanks a lot, and to impossible high standards!" — Richard B., Listerby, Sweden

"...proven to be a similarly vital component of my EDC loadout. I work in an office in an environment (Air Force Base) that requires me to carry and display my credentials throughout the day; I use a semi-custom badge/ID holder for this. This holder has a couple of pockets (slots, really) to accommodate small items; one of the things I like to have on my person at all times is a pen. Most small pens are made of inferior materials and use cartridges that are less than ideal. Your “One” pen is small enough to fit in my credentials holder (but large enough to be comfortable to use), is constructed of top-notch materials, and uses one of my very favorite refills. Obviously the fit & finish on your stuff is miles beyond the competition…I’ve been carrying and using the pen for a couple of years and it still looks pristine." — Jim H., Oklahoma, USA

"It is light and well balanced. The attention to detail is evident, from the grip to the perfectly functioning click mechanism. If someone is looking for the perfect writing tool — they need to get this pen." — Paul C., Colorado, USA

"I just wanted to drop a quick note to rave about my The One Click Pen. To start I love pens and I like having nice writing instruments around. My passion started with 20 to 30 dollar pens but was always left thinking there could be more. Then I finally stepped up to a 100 dollar pen and it was great but the inside mechanism repeatedly failed. I did some research online and found The One Click Pen made entirely out of titanium. My first thought was dude you have spent a 100 dollars before and was left wanting a better experience are you sure you are ready to go up to the 180 dollar mark to try to find that one pen (no pun intended) that will make you confident in your purchase. Well after using the one pen a I can say this pen is truly a functional work of art. I enjoy this pen when I am looking at it in its upright stand and I even more enjoy this pen when I write with it. I want to thank you for making a product that meets my incredibly high standards. The experience was even more complimented by a great customer service experience, they answered my questions quickly and were knowledgably. I will definitely buy future products." — Che H., Washington, USA

A Never-Before-Seen Mechanism

The ClickShift™ mechanism is what gives this pen its true "X" factor — and it's the heart of everything.

I'd love to tell you I nailed it first try. I'd be lying.

It took me a long time, a lot of late nights, and an honestly embarrassing amount of banging my head against the wall to design and refine it. And even once I had a final prototype, the real work only then started — testing, tweaking, and re-machining version after version after version until the action was exactly right. Then doing it again, because "almost right" has never been good enough for me.

The CNC machining of it proved tricky in its own right. A mechanism like this lives or dies on tolerances measured in thousandths of a millimeter, and getting a machine to hit that, reliably, every single time, is a fight.

But we got there. And all the blood, sweat and tears were worth it — because the mechanism ended up working even better than I'd hoped. (And I'm a pretty optimistic guy to begin with.)

But here's the crazy part...

The World's Top Titanium Pen Maker Asked To License It

The mechanism turned out so well that I was approached by the top titanium pen maker in the world — who asked if they could license it from me.

Let that sink in for a second. Not copy it. License it — because it couldn't simply be knocked off.

After a bit of back and forth, we struck a deal. So yes — there's now another respected maker out there using this exact mechanism, under licence, from what started as a one-man shop in New Zealand.

I don't tell you that to brag. I tell you because it's the single best proof I can offer that this isn't marketing fluff. When the best in the business looks at your work and says "I want to pay to use that," you know you've built something genuinely special.

Every Single Component, Precision CNC Machined In-House

This fourth-generation ClickShift™ now runs on 304 Stainless Steel internals — and we make every single component ourselves, in-house. Right down to the custom titanium machine screw that retains the pocket clip.

No outsourcing. No off-the-shelf parts dropped in to save time. No mass-production shortcuts hiding inside a pretty body. Just parts I designed, machined, finished and assembled myself — exactly the way I'd want them if this were the pen I carried every day. (It is.)

The Ultra-Smooth Action (And My Favourite "Magic Metal")

Let me be flat-out honest with you about how this V4 came to be — because it's a good story and it tells you everything about how I work.

When I first designed the mechanism, I was hoping I could run it on raw titanium throughout. And it worked... for a little while. Then it slowly started losing its smoothness.

If you're a bit of a titanium geek like me, you'll know exactly what was happening: galling — that microscopic titanium-on-titanium grabbing that robs a mechanism of its silky feel.

I could have shrugged and shipped it anyway. Plenty would have. Instead I went back to the bench and kept tweaking — different materials, different combinations — until one clear winner emerged:

304 Stainless Steel.

It turns out 304 is a kind of "magic metal" for this application. Not only is it the smoothest of everything I tested by a country mile... it actually gets smoother the more you use it. Every click polishes it a little further.

This pen doesn't wear out. It wears in.

A Titanium Spring (The Part No One Else Will Attempt)

As far as I know, I'm still the only person in the world precision-machining a pen spring from titanium.

Almost everyone else — including the big-name "premium" brands — drops in a bog-standard, off-the-shelf steel spring and calls it a day. You're paying luxury money for the same coil that's in a $2 pen.

Not here. The spring inside the ClickShift™ is machined from titanium, by me, and it's unique to this pen. It has to be — because the nature of the ClickShift™ mechanism demands a spring with very specific characteristics that simply don't exist off the shelf.

Is it a hassle to make? Yes. Genuinely.

Is it worth it? Absolutely. Every time.

A Machined Pocket Clip (Because Even The Clip Matters)

You've probably worked out by now that I don't make compromises when I design a pen. Best materials, best methods, full stop.

Most makers use a stamped-and-bent pocket clip. It's functional, it's cheap, it hits a price point — and it's not for me.

The clip on the ClickShift™ is fully machined, not stamped. No mass-production methods touch it. I treat the clip as a functional and visually important part of the pen, and it gets exactly as much care in design, machining and finishing as any other component. It's not an afterthought. Nothing on this pen is.

Warning: This Pen Is Dangerously "Fidget-able"

You're reading this on a site full of fidgets, so you already know what I'm about to say — but it has to be said:

The ClickShift™ is a very, VERY fidget-able pen.

That ultra-smooth 304 stainless action combined with the crisp, clean click is, frankly, horribly addictive. Once it's in your hand you'll click it without even noticing you're doing it.

Fair warning: you may well drive your co-workers up the wall. (Then again — maybe they'll finally give you your own office. Win-win.)

Maintenance-Free, And Apart In Under 60 Seconds

Because the mechanism is so simple, there's effectively zero maintenance.

And because disassembly and reassembly are just as simple, if you ever want to clean it or swap a refill, you'll have it apart and back together in under a minute — no special tools required.

Accepts The World's Most Popular Refills

Just like my Bolt-Action and Click pens, the ClickShift™ takes the ever-popular, easy-to-find Parker-style refill — so you'll never be hunting some obscure cartridge.

A small sample of what fits: Parker (Ballpoint, Gel, Quickflow), Fisher Space Pen (including the underwater-capable refills), Monteverde (Ceramic Gel, Soft Roll, Needlepoint), OHTO needlepoints, Pelikan 337, Pentel, Tombow, Faber-Castell, Visconti, and many more. If it's Parker-style, it'll fit.

Our Famous Matte Surface Finish

We're known for our signature Matte finish. I know — "Matte" doesn't sound fancy. But it's the result of a genuinely involved process.

After each component comes off the CNC machine, it's sanded, deburred, and multi-stage tumbled by hand until it reaches that distinctive, understated surface. The end result is a finish that's beautifully tactile and fairly scratch-resistant (not perfectly — nothing is — but it wears gracefully and only looks better with a little honest use).

A Slightly More Substantial Body — On Purpose

If you know my work, you'll know every previous pen I've made (three pens and a mechanical pencil) has been 9mm in diameter — fairly slim by market standards, and much loved for it.

The ClickShift™ is my first step into something a touch more substantial: 9.5mm (0.375").

That's only about 5.5% thicker — but you genuinely notice it when writing. If you like a pen with a little more presence and confidence in the hand, this is the one for you. It's also the longest pen I've made, at 134mm — yet thanks to titanium, it's barely heavier than my slimmer pens.

Made Entirely In-House — And Yes, That Affects The Price

Let me be straight with you, because you deserve it.

My pens sit at the higher end of the market, in both quality and price. I make no compromises in the design and machining of the ClickShift™, and doing everything in-house — rather than outsourcing overseas — genuinely costs more to produce.

The honest result is a pen that not everyone will be able to justify. I'm completely at peace with that. Because I'm not willing to cheapen a single component just to chase some "price point" the market expects.

That's simply not how I work. With me it's the best... or nothing.

If you're the kind of person who already knows the difference — who's tired of $30 pens that disappoint and $100 pens whose mechanisms fail — then you're exactly who I made this for.

Here's a "behind the scenes" look at just one of the handful of CNC machines it takes to produce the ClickShift Pen. We have another machine to make the Pocket-Clip and another machine to make the one-of-a-kind Spring.

This photo shows one of our CNC machines making the "Skelly 1000" Titanium Pen (that's 1107 individually drilled holes).
